The control room for the Viking Power site is contained in a 40’ shipping container. This control room is equipped with dual air conditioners for personnel and equipment temperature control. The controls for the machines have been upgraded to the new TDS TurboNet Dash 1 control system. This is a digital programmable DCS control system. The control cabling enters the container in overhead cable tray. The controls are contained in cabinets. The components for Unit #1 and #2 are contained in one cabinet with a common auto-synchronizer and Unit #3 and #4 is contained in another cabinet with a common auto-synchronizer. The picture above shows the control room container.

This picture shows the internals of the control room container. The control room is paneled and ergonomically constructed and furnished. The container is wired with lights and receptacles. The floor is tiled.

The cable tray enters and runs overhead. An air conditioner is mounted in each end of the container. The cabinets in the back of the containers house the controls system I/O modules and the processor. In the foreground is the Control Console for the TurboNet Dash 1 HMI (Human Machine Interface- right two monitors) and the TDS EWS (Engineering Work Station- left two monitors). The computers for the EWS and HMI are located in the control console on the upper shelves. The system is connected with an Ethernet data highway to the processors in the control cabinets to issue commands to the controls and receive data and alarm conditions.

This picture shows the synchronizing panel for Unit #3 and #4. The Unit #1 and #2 also has an identical panel.

The synchronizer is comprised of Beckwith synchronizing components. These devices will automatic synchronize and issue a closing command to the generator breaker.

The TurboNet Dash 1 I/O modules and the control processors are contained in the same panels as the auto-synchronizer. Each unit has an identical control system as shown here for Unit #2.

This picture shows the other end of the control room container. Another door is located at this end of the container (two doors) next to the other air conditioner.

The IBM color laser jet printer is also displayed in this picture.
